Yesterday in Toronto we had a crazy lightning storm and instead of cowering into a house I decided to go to the Lake Shore and take some pictures. I had Grace come along with me and she was my assistant. As I was setting up, huge fork lightnings were happening all around me. But typical Murphy's Law, once my camera was set up and the tripod was out the lightning stopped and it just rained for 10 minutes. I decided to hold out and after 10 mins the lightning came back. There was one point I was starting to get worried as the lightning got closer and I realized I was standing on open flat beach with a metal tripod and electrical equipment. The last shot you see is when I decided it was time to be concerned about getting hit by lightning and decided to pack up.
My set up was f6.0, shutter 30sec, ISO 100

fuck yeah dude.. man i've been wanting to shoot lightning photos forever..
there's these tools you can buy too to hook up to your camera, it's like a remote trigger for your camera, but it's set up to measure the electrostatic current in the air, so right before lightning goes off (almost the same instant) it fires your camera.. it's pretty sick.
nice work on the photos though for sure. I wish ottawa had somewhere i could sit to take photos like this.
